Male Communication Clichees

Here are clichees from the world of male communication – you decide if they’re true:

  • Men don’t cry – or at least not in public – fearing this show them as too weak.
  • Only gay men are truly able to express their feelings.
  • Men are straightforward talkers; they think what they say.
  • There’s one question men don’t like, and it’s a woman asking them “What are you thinking?”
  • When a woman asks a man “What are you thinking?” the man isn’t thinking of anything (most of the time).
  • Men boast about their sex life, but don’t go into great details as women do.
  • When a woman hands out her number to a man, he doesn’t call her back in the first few days.
  • Women want to hear a man saying “I love you” more often than the man wants to say it.
  • When a man starts talking to a woman in a night club, he only wants to get her into his (or her) bed.
  • Cool men don’t talk much; true heros are unable to share their feelings.
  • Men often speak in grunts only, especially when watching TV.
  • Men are only able to express relationships to other males in “manly” rituals, such as special hand-shakes or boxing.
  • When a man tells a woman “I’ll give you a call,” he won’t call back.
  • Men are too proud to admit they like romantic movies.
  • Men lie in order to sleep with a woman.
