Men and Women in the Workplace

Kari Uman says:

  • While men enjoy giving information to show their expertise, women like sharing information to strengthen relationships.
  • While men listen to solve problems, women listen so they can increase their level of understanding.
  • While men are comfortable with both giving and receiving orders, women more often seek consensus among different parties.
  • While men don’t mind a fight over a disagreement, women prefer everyone to agree to not endanger an existing relationship.

(These seem to be all “on average” characteristics at best – I know enough men and women who don’t fall on either side of the spectrum.)
